Elite athletes

The development of a new sports centre at the University of Surrey will provide our elite athletes with the facilities they need to compete at county, national and international level and will help us to nurture the sporting heroes of tomorrow. Athletes will benefit not only from world-class facilities but also from practical help and support to enable students to combine sport with their education.

We are proud of the university's many talented athletes enjoying success at international level, in sports as varied as squash, gymnastics, fencing and trampolining. Ross Brewer is the four times British Men's Artistic Gymnastics Champion 2003-2006, Kate Allenby won a bronze medal in the pentathlon at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and we have also had Surrey graduates competing at international levels in trampolining and badminton.

Adrian Moorhouse "Britain has been behind other countries in terms of providing high quality facilities for talented athletes through higher education, here is an opportunity to provide a state-of-the-art centre that will inspire elite athletes to even greater heights and provide a focus for talented development for the region."

Adrian Moorhouse, Olympic gold medallist 1988
